Softball Game Preview: Plainville Blue Devils vs. Middletown Blue Dragons

The Plainville Blue Devils will take on the Middletown Blue Dragons at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Plainville has given up an average of 8.5 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Plainville lost 19-4 to Maloney on Thursday. The Blue Devils have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Middletown came out on top against Cromwell on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run third inning. The Blue Dragons took their contest against the Panthers 7-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Blue Dragons.

Kyleigh Franklin made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Those six strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cooper Porch, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Olivia Kane, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Middletown kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cromwell only managed three.

Plainville's defeat dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Middletown, their win bumped their record up to 5-9.

Plainville came out on top in a nail-biter against Middletown when the teams last played back in April, sneaking past 9-8. Do the Blue Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Blue Dragons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
