Softball Recap: Gallatin County's Luck Changes for the Better on Monday

Gallatin County lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Walton-Verona, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Monday's contest. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 16-2 margin over the Bearcats on Monday. Considering the Wildcats have won six matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Izzy Olivigni made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). Olivigni was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Gallatin County let Anna Bailey and Keagan Howard run wild. Bailey got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Howard got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs. That's the most RBI Bailey has posted since back in March. Kayleigh Lyndsay was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

The win snapped Gallatin County's losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 8-6 record. As for Walton-Verona, they dropped their record down to 2-4 with the loss, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gallatin County will square off against Eminence at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Warriors have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 20.33 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Walton-Verona, they will take on Grant County at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The contest will give the Bearcats their first taste of in-conference action this season.
