The Redondo Union Sea Hawks will be taking part in a tournament against the Canyon Comanches at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Redondo Union gave up the first runs on Saturday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top against Downey by a score of 6-3. That's two games straight that the Sea Hawks have won by exactly three runs.
Geno Guerrero looked comfortable as he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ian Brown, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of KG Hattori, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Redondo Union was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Canyon, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They never let Palm Desert get on the board and left with a 3-0 win on Saturday.
Not much got past Gilbert Vargas, who gave up just six hits to keep Palm Desert off the board.
On the hitting side, Chip Mertz was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Blake Helsper was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base.
Redondo Union now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Canyon, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
Canyon's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Redondo Union hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having hit 0 of their hits per game.
