Softball Recap: Lecanto Panthers vs. Montverde Academy Eagles
Lecanto had lost six straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 9-15 to make it seven. They lost 16-1 to the Montverde Academy Eagles. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Panthers of the 11-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2022.
As for Montverde Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-2 record this season. Considering they have won 15 matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
For Montverde Academy's part, La'Breah Sands made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Sands has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Addison Poe was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Luna Taboas, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
