Baseball Game Preview: Girard Indians vs. Poland Seminary Bulldogs

Girard is 1-9 against Poland Seminary since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Indians will take on the Bulldogs at 10:00 a.m. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

On Thursday, Girard didn't have quite enough to beat South Range and fell 3-2.

Dominick Tolone was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits.

At the plate, Will Hynes made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and one run. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last eight times he's played.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Poland Seminary's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They came up short against Canfield, falling 6-0. The match marked the first time this season in which the Bulldogs were not able to get on the board.

Poland Seminary's defeat dropped their record down to 15-4. As for Girard, their loss dropped their record down to 13-9.

Girard skirted past Poland Seminary 4-3 in their previous meeting back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Indians since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
