Baseball Game Preview: Archbishop McNicholas Rockets vs. Monroe Hornets

The Archbishop McNicholas Rockets will square off against the Monroe Hornets at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Archbishop McNicholas 3.5, Monroe 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Archbishop McNicholas is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Oak Hills just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of the Highlanders by a score of 9-8.

Archbishop McNicholas got a good showing from Peyton Doty, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Doty gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in April.

At the plate, Archbishop McNicholas saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nate Colyer, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Meanwhile, Monroe sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over Eaton on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Hornets.

Archbishop McNicholas' loss dropped their record down to 18-9. As for Monroe, their win bumped their record up to 15-8.

Archbishop McNicholas was able to grind out a solid victory over Monroe in their previous matchup back in May of 2018, winning 9-5. Will the Rockets repeat their success, or do the Hornets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
