Valley Central extended their winning streak to six on Monday, bumping them up to 7-2. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Monroe-Woodbury Crusaders 5-3. This was payback for the Vikings, who suffered a 5-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Emily Sharpe spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up nine Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Eleanor O'Neill, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Emily Smit, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

As for Monroe-Woodbury, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only 2.75 runs.

On Monroe-Woodbury's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Isabella Brelesky gave up three earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, Monroe-Woodbury saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaia Carillo, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Valley Central will venture away from home to face off against Cornwall Central at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Dragons' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Vikings' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Monroe-Woodbury, they will head out to challenge Middletown at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
