Basketball Game Preview: Harlan Hawks vs. Brennan Bears

The Harlan Hawks are taking a road trip to take on the Brennan Bears at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Harlan is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.5 points per game this season.

Harlan is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Sotomayor just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Friday. They were outmatched by the WILDCATS and fell 71-42. The Hawks were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 40-20.

Harlan's defeat came about despite a quality game from Karina Vasquez, who posted 16 points. Those 16 points gave Vasquez a new career-high. Jazelle Scott was another key player, putting up nine points.

Even though they lost, Harlan smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in eight consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, after a string of nine wins, Brennan's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They took a 60-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of Sotomayor.

Harlan's loss dropped their record down to 11-11. As for Brennan, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-9.

Harlan might still be hurting after the 65-45 loss they got from Brennan in their previous matchup back in November of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Brennan's Bella Flemings, who went 7 of 11 from beyond the arc on her way to 32 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
