Basketball Recap: Johnny Butterfield's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Hanks over Del Valle

Hanks lost against Del Valle back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Hanks Knights received a blow as they fell 64-45 to the Del Valle Conquistadores. The Knights have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Hanks' defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Johnny Butterfield, who posted ten points and six rebounds. Butterfield is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Zeke Carreon, who had ten points.

Leading Del Valle to victory were Kobe Saenz and Josiah Nunez. Saenz put up ten points along with five boards and three steals, while Nunez dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. That's the most boards Saenz has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Shelton Fuller, who earned nine points and seven rebounds.

Hanks' loss dropped their record down to 7-21. As for Del Valle, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a massive bump to their 19-10 record this season.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing El Dorado the next time they take the court. Hanks will host El Dorado at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, while Del Valle will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on February 4th.
