Baseball Recap: Vela Comes Up Short

Vela extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 12-14 in the process. They fell 6-1 to the Rowe Warriors. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-2 on Tuesday.

David An was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

As for Rowe, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 15 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games.

On Rowe's side, Zavier Garcia spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up nine Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on JC Garza Jr., who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs. Another player making a difference was Ashton Guerrero, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Vela has already played their next matchup, a 17-1 win against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest on the 22nd. As for Rowe, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 11-0 victory against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial on the 22nd.
