Kai Brookins leads a balanced attack to beat Saint Stephen's Episcopal

Recap: Winthrop College Prep Academy Spartans vs. Saint Stephen's Episcopal Falcons

The Winthrop College Prep Academy Spartans had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.8 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They put the hurt on Saint Stephen's Episcopal with a sharp 69-46 win. Given Winthrop College Prep Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 226th, while Saint Stephen's Episcopal is ranked 698th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Winthrop College Prep Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kai Brookins, who scored 22 points. Stephen Miller was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with six rebounds and five steals.

Despite the loss, Saint Stephen's Episcopal still got an impressive performance from Nick Yatros, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds. Yatros hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Tommy Baugher, who scored seven points.

Winthrop College Prep Academy's victory bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Saint Stephen's Episcopal, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Winthrop College Prep Academy will face off against Seffner Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Seffner Christian is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. As for Saint Stephen's Episcopal, they will head out on the road to face off against IMG Academy Black at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. IMG Academy Black is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
