Baseball Game Preview: Bethel Jaguars vs. Rio Vista Rams

The Bethel Jaguars are taking a road trip to square off against the Rio Vista Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Bethel's hitters haven't had much luck over their past four games, but Monday's matchup will give them a chance to turn things around.

Bethel came up short against Swett on Friday, falling 12-1.

Rio Vista's found some homefield redemption this week after a overtime loss to Mesa Verde on Thursday. The Rams walked away with a 5-2 victory over the Mavericks. The win was some much needed relief for the Rams as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Emmett Medders was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Rio Vista is undefeated when he allows at most two walks, but 4-10 otherwise. Medders was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games he's played.

In other batting news, Rio Vista let Leland Jennings and John Brimmer run wild. Jennings got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and one RBI, while Brimmer went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four stolen bases gave Jennings a new career-high.

Rio Vista's record now sits at 9-10. As for Bethel, their loss dropped their record down to 5-14.

Bethel came up short against Rio Vista when the teams last played back in March, falling 9-4. Can the Jaguars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
