Riverview Sarasota and Charlotte are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2020, but likely not for long. The Rams will look to defend their home field on Monday against the Fightin' Tarpons at 7:00 p.m. Riverview Sarasota's pitching crew has only allowed 1.9 runs per game this season, so Charlotte's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Having struggled with three losses in a row, Riverview Sarasota turned things around against Lemon Bay on Thursday. They came out on top against the Manta Rays by a score of 4-1.
Allison Cole made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 17 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
Cole wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Alivia Laas, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI. That's the most RBI Laas has posted since back in March. Isabelle Bain also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Riverview Sarasota hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lemon Bay struck out 13 times.
Meanwhile, Charlotte was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of North Port.
Dava Hoffer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on seven hits and racked up ten Ks.
On the hitting side, Haven Hickox was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Addi Recker, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI.
Charlotte's loss dropped their record down to 10-12. As for Riverview Sarasota, their victory bumped their record up to 17-4.
Riverview Sarasota took their win against Charlotte in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 6-0 score. Do the Rams have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Fightin' Tarpons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
