Preview: Victory Christian Lions vs. Billingsley Bears
Victory Christian has enjoyed the comforts of home their last five games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Billingsley Bears at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Victory Christian has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 198 points over their last three contests.
Even though Victory Christian has not done well against Westminster School at Oak Mountain recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Victory Christian came out on top against Westminster School at Oak Mountain by a score of 66-58. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Peyton Scott was his usual excellent self, scoring 16 points along with five rebounds. The game was his 16th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was William Wilson-Hueter, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, Billingsley struggled with assists two weeks ago (Maplesville had 17 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Billingsley was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 49-48 to Maplesville. Billingsley has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Kyle Boice, who scored 18 points along with three steals. Those 18 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Danny Boice, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Victory Christian's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-7. As for Billingsley, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Victory Christian have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 36.6 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Billingsley, though, as they've been averaging only 21.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
