Baseball Recap: Bishop Amat Comes Up Short

Bishop Amat dropped down to 8-3 on Tuesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the St. Bernard Vikings by a score of 5-4. The Lancers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Vikings earlier this season, when they won 3-2.

Raymond Castro was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Castro wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Aiden Medina, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

As for St. Bernard, their victory bumped their record up to 4-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since April 1, 2025.

On St. Bernard's side, not much got past Juan Sandoval, who gave up just nine hits to keep Bishop Amat off the board. Sandoval also tossed a walk, which is notable because the Vikings are 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 1-4 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Lennex Minor was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run and one double. Aidden Moten was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Bishop Amat beat St. Bernard by a score of 3-0 on Friday.
