Baseball Recap: Mauston Golden Eagles vs. Ripon Tigers

Mauston had lost seven straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped down to 1-6 to make it eight. They lost 13-3 to the Ripon Tigers. The Golden Eagles were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Tigers earlier this season, when they won 11-10.

As for Ripon, they moved to 2-6 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak. They not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since May 17, 2025 (when they won 10-0).

For Ripon's part, Coy DeVries was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Those 14 strikeouts gave DeVries a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one double.

In other batting news, Shay Otto was excellent, going 4-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Ripon is 2-1 when Otto posts two or more runs, but 0-5 otherwise. Jackson Nelson also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Coming up, Mauston is taking a road trip to take on La Crosse Logan at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Ripon, they will face off against Howards Grove on Saturday. Howards Grove has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.43 runs per game on average), something Ripon will no doubt try to take advantage of.
