The Deckerville Eagles will face off against the Memphis Yellowjackets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Deckerville's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points in their last four games.
On Friday, Deckerville humbled Mayville with a 58-14 victory. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Deckerville's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ian Flanagan, who rushed for 46 yards and a pair of TDs, and also threw for 81 yards and one touchdown. Another back making a difference was Brandon Salowitz, who gained 61 total yards and three touchdowns.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Deckerville proved: they limited Mayville to a paltry 3.4 yards per carry. While two picked up at least five total tackles, Flanagan stood above the rest. He rushed for 46 yards and a pair of scores, and also threw for 81 yards and one touchdown. Deckerville didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 6.5.
Deckerville's defense didn't let Tyrus Davidson, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. In that department, Trenten Park was the leader with two.
Meanwhile, Memphis was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They took a 36-21 bruising from Bad Axe. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Yellowjackets came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan football rankings (they are ranked 86th, while the Hatchets are ranked 206th).
Memphis' loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Deckerville, their victory bumped their record up to 5-0.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Deckerville has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 293.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Memphis struggles in that department as they've been averaging 165.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
