Volleyball Recap: Athens Starts Season with Win at Home

Athens gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. They came out on top against the Havana Ducks by a score of 2-0. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Ducks recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

While Athens won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the first set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-22, 25-19.

Among those leading the charge was Talya Baker, who had eight digs and two aces.

Baker wasn't the only good server: Athens was lethal from the service line and finished the game with ten aces. That's the most aces they've posted since back in September of 2024.

Coming up, Athens is packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will square off against Greenview at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup will give the Warriors their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Havana, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 2-0 victory against Delavan on the 26th.
