Basketball Game Preview: Calallen Wildcats vs. Corpus Christi Moody Trojans

Calallen hasn't had much luck against Corpus Christi Moody recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Calallen Wildcats will square off against the Corpus Christi Moody Trojans at 7:30 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Calallen's tournament run continued when they took on Winn on Saturday. Calallen strolled past Winn with points to spare, taking the game 46-30.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Corpus Christi Moody, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They put the hurt on Central Heights with a sharp 59-33 win on Saturday. The Trojans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten contests by 21 points or more this season.

Calallen better keep an eye on Shantaye Hazel. She was instrumental in Corpus Christi Moody's win, dropping a triple-double on 16 points, 13 boards, and 11 steals. With that strong performance, Hazel is now averaging an impressive 8.1 boards per game. Another player making a difference was Raelene Avalos, who posted 13 points and seven steals.

Corpus Christi Moody pushed their record up to 12-7 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 23.8 points. As for Calallen, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-6 record this season.

Things could have been worse for Calallen, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 49-31 loss to Corpus Christi Moody when the teams last played back in November of 2021. Can Calallen avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
