Baseball Recap: Maynard Comes Up Short

After flying high against Ayer Shirley on Wednesday, Maynard came back down to earth. The Tigers fell just short of the West Boylston Lions by a score of 7-6 on Friday. The Tigers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Lions earlier this season, when they won 9-0.

Max Mandler and Max Cedeno stepped up to the plate in a big way. Mandler got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Cedeno went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Maynard has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-3 record this season. As for West Boylston, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Maynard will venture away from home to square off against Tahanto Regional at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The Stags' pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so the Tigers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for West Boylston, they will head out on the road to take on Gardner at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
