Baseball Game Preview: Polytechnic Parrots vs. North Side Steers

Polytechnic hasn't had much luck against North Side recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Parrots will challenge the Steers at 7:00 p.m. Polytechnic will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.

Polytechnic is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Wyatt 18-0 on Thursday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Parrots with their most commanding win of the season.

Hector Ruiz was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Those 13 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three RBI and one double. That double was his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Adan Cerda, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one triple. Polytechnic is 2-1 when Cerda posts three or more RBI, but 3-14 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Nathan Acosta, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Polytechnic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .682. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for North Side's offense. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 11-0 to Paschal, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Steers have struggled against the Panthers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Polytechnic's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-15. As for North Side, their loss dropped their record down to 13-16.

Polytechnic couldn't quite get it done against North Side in their previous matchup back in April of 2025 as they fell 8-4. Can the Parrots avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
