The Basic Wolves will square off against the Doral Academy Red Rock Dragons at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Basic sitting on four straight victories and Doral Academy Red Rock on five.
Basic's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They blew past Eldorado 16-0. With that win, the Wolves brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Aubrey Kilar made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Kilar was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Basic got a massive performance out of Peyton Barron, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and four RBI. Those four RBI gave Barron a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Frias, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three doubles, two runs, and two RBI.
Basic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .680. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .387 or higher in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Doral Academy Red Rock hadn't done well against Sierra Vista recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Dragons put the hurt on the Mountain Lions with a sharp 12-2 victory. The Dragons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by seven runs or more this season.
Megan Upp spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Gabriella Rodriguez was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Desarae Castaneda, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Doral Academy Red Rock pushed their record up to 16-3 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Basic, their win bumped their record up to 9-7.
Both Basic and Doral Academy Red Rock just can't seem to miss. The Wolves have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. However, it's not like Doral Academy Red Rock struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Basic skirted past Doral Academy Red Rock 3-1 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Do the Wolves have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Dragons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
