Basketball Game Preview: Central Spartans vs. Mount Miguel Matadors

The Central Spartans will square off against the Mount Miguel Matadors at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Central is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.5 points per game this season.

Central is likely headed into the game with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Brawley on Tuesday. Central took a 52-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of Brawley.

Defeat or not, Central got some senior leadership from Daimaggio Wyatt and James Tovar. Wyatt dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten boards, while Tovar posted 15 points along with eight boards and six steals. The match was Wyatt's seventh in a row with at least ten points. David Lopez was another key player, putting up seven points.

Meanwhile, Mount Miguel earned a 59-46 win over Sweetwater on Tuesday. That 13 point margin sets a new team best for the Matadors this season.

Central better keep an eye on Hamad Elhamad. He was instrumental in Mount Miguel's win, going 13 of 15 on his way to 27 points and six rebounds. What's more, Elhamad also racked up two assists, the most he's had since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jerome Radcliff, who had 12 points.

Central has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-6 record this season. As for Mount Miguel, their victory bumped their record up to 6-7.

Everything came up roses for Central against Mount Miguel in their previous matchup back in December of 2019, as the squad secured a 79-31 win. Does Central have another victory up their sleeve, or will Mount Miguel turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
