Basketball Game Preview: Robinson Rockets vs. La Vega Pirates

Robinson is 1-9 against La Vega since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Robinson Rockets will take on the La Vega Pirates at 6:15 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

On Friday, Robinson didn't have too much trouble with Connally as they won 55-41.

Meanwhile, La Vega waltzed into their contest on Friday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They claimed a resounding 86-46 win over the Cougars. With the Pirates ahead 40-19 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

La Vega's win came from a few key players Robinson will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Angela Carroll, who went 9 for 14 on her way to 20 points and eight boards. The game was her fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of CeMaria Kelly, who went 7 of 16 en route to 16 points in addition to six steals and five assists.

La Vega smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 33 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in February of 2024.

La Vega pushed their record up to 24-6 with the victory, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 81.6 points per game. As for Robinson, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-10 record this season.

Robinson was dealt a bruising 89-34 defeat at the hands of La Vega when the teams last played two weeks ago. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Kelly, who went 10 for 22 on her way to 26 points along with eight rebounds and seven steals. Now that Robinson knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
