Softball Recap: Mechanicsburg Finds Home Field Redemption Against Catholic Central

There's no place like home for Mechanicsburg, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Catholic Central Irish an 18-0 shutout on Friday. The Indians haven't had any issues with the Irish recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

Mylee DeLong made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Avery McDowell, who scored four runs and stole five bases while going 4-for-4. Another player making a difference was Marilyn Wilhelm, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3.

Mechanicsburg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .719. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Mechanicsburg's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Catholic Central, their defeat was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-4.

Looking ahead, Mechanicsburg will face off against Northeastern at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Catholic Central, they will challenge Madison Plains at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
