Basketball Recap: Friona Comes Up Short

Friona was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 64-37 loss at the hands of the Slaton Tigers. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Chieftans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 47-26 back in December of 2024.

Friona's loss dropped their record down to 16-14. As for Slaton, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season.

Friona and Slaton could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Friona will challenge Shallowater at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday down 447 places (556 vs. 109). Similarly, Slaton (ranked 284th) will meet Idalou (ranked 93rd) at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
