Baseball Recap: Simsboro Drops Highest Score of Season Against Castor

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Simsboro). They put the hurt on Castor with a sharp 21-11 win on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for Simsboro considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

Chris Harrell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since March 5th. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. Simsboro is 5-1 when Harrell posts two or more runs, but 7-10-1 otherwise.

In other batting news, Trevor Cook was a standout: he scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in February. Another player making a difference was Braylon Gipson, who scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Simsboro always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .638. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Simsboro now has a winning record of 12-11-1. As for Castor, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Simsboro Tigers duke it out with Plain Dealing Lions at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Plain Dealing has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.27 runs per game on average), something Simsboro will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Castor, they will face off against Lakeview at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
