Basketball Recap: Wausa Snaps 13-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Wausa won against Tri County Northeast last Thursday with 45 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. The Wausa Vikings came out on top against the Winside Wildcats by a score of 45-32. That's more bragging rights for the Vikings, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Wausa to victory, but perhaps none more so than Olivia Barta, who posted 16 points and five steals. Those 16 points gave Barta a new career-high. Taylor Dawson was another key player, putting up 13 points and five steals.

Winside's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Ellie Topp, who went 5 for 9 en route to 14 points and seven rebounds, and Bridget Marotz, who put up ten points along with seven boards and four steals.

Wausa's win ended a 13-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 8-8. As for Winside, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Bloomfield the next time they take the court. Winside will head out to face Bloomfield at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, while Wausa will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
