Basketball Game Preview: Excelsior Classical Academy Flying Lions vs. The Hawbridge School Herons

The Excelsior Classical Academy Flying Lions will square off against The Hawbridge School Herons at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

After dropping their season opener at home, The Hawbridge School is headed out to face a Flying Lions team ready to give their home crowd a win. Excelsior Classical Academy took a 74-56 bruising from Durham School of the Arts on Thursday. The Flying Lions were down 60-40 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Excelsior Classical Academy might have lost, but man, Tyler Hill was a machine: he dropped a double-double with 20 points and 12 boards. Hill is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 47% in the last five games he's played dating back to last season. Jason Maldonado was another key player, going 5-for-8 to rack up 10 points and five rebounds.

Meanwhile, The Hawbridge School was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss dating back to last season. They took a blow against Commission Leadership Academy, falling 66-39.

Excelsior Classical Academy will have to contain Noah Snyder as he made an impact in The Hawbridge School's last game. He posted 30 points.

Everything came up roses for Excelsior Classical Academy against The Hawbridge School when the teams last played back in December of 2024, as the squad secured a 60-18 victory. In that contest, the Flying Lions amassed a halftime lead of 43-9, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Monday.
