Preview: Pawnee City Indians vs. Sacred Heart Irish
Pawnee City is 0-10 against Sacred Heart since January of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Pawnee City Indians will head out on the road to face off against the Sacred Heart Irish. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Pawnee City has struggled recently with 15 losses in a row, while Sacred Heart will arrive with four straight victories.
Pawnee City suffered their biggest loss since December 9, 2023 on Tuesday. They were dealt a 66-37 loss at the hands of Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer. Pawnee City found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and post eight fewer assists than your opponent.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Madelyn Osborne, who scored 13 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Kinsley Benson, who scored seven points along with five steals.
Meanwhile, Sacred Heart scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They walked away with a 52-39 win over Auburn. Given Sacred Heart's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 36th, while Auburn is ranked 145th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Pawnee City's loss was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-12. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 20.7 points per game. As for Sacred Heart, their win bumped their record up to 12-2.
Pawnee City was dealt a bruising 56-15 loss at the hands of Sacred Heart when the teams last played back in January of 2023. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Pawnee City was down 39-6.
