Soccer Game Preview: Horizon vs. Windermere

The Horizon Hawks will take on the Windermere Wolverines at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Horizon will be strutting in after a victory while Windermere will be coming in after a defeat.

Horizon will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any goals last Tuesday, then bounced right back against Cypress Creek on Wednesday. Everything went Horizon's way against Cypress Creek as Horizon made off with a 10-0 win. Considering the Hawks have won four matches by more than two goals this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Their offense was hitting Cypress Creek from everywhere, as five different players booted in a goal. Claudia Rodriguez-Medina led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for three goals all by herself.

Meanwhile, Windermere was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against Winter Park, falling 8-0. While losing is never fun, the Wolverines can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida soccer rankings (they are ranked 286th, while the Wildcats are ranked 51st).

Horizon's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Windermere, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.

Everything went Horizon's way against Windermere in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, as Horizon made off with a 5-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Horizon since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
