Firth and Salmon are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2023, but likely not for long. The Cougars will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against the Savages at 4:00 p.m. Firth has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with three straight losses, while Salmon will come in with three straight victories.
American Falls hit Firth with a five-run third inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cougars lost 11-5 to the Beavers.
Meg Leslie made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Linlee Telford was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Salmon). They were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over Firth on Friday. The Savages might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by six runs or more this season.
Abby Jackson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off 11 hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, six RBI, and two stolen bases. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Kayden O'Connor was a standout: she got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and one triple. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Danielle Darrah, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and one double.
Salmon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Firth's defeat dropped their record down to 6-12. As for Salmon, the win got them back to even at 6-6-1.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Firth hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .313. However, it's not like Salmon struggles in that department as they've averaged .332. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Firth suffered a grim 14-4 defeat to Salmon in their previous meeting on Friday. Will the Cougars have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
