The Rosemead Panthers will challenge the South El Monte Eagles at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Rosemead is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitchers stepped up to hand El Monte a 10-0 shutout on Monday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Panthers as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.
Camren Mancha looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (two).
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Sebastian Genie, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with five RBI, one run, and one double. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Logan Mojica was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but South El Monte ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They had just enough and edged out Marshall 6-5. The win was nothing new for South El Monte as they're now sitting on three straight.
Christian Ortega was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 6.1 innings while giving up five earned runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Armando Huizar was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Xavier Cordova, who scored a run and stole two bases.
South El Monte's victory bumped their record up to 12-5. As for Rosemead, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-10.
Rosemead might still be hurting after the 12-1 defeat they got from South El Monte in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
