Baseball Recap: Lafayette Jefferson Wins Going Away Against Carroll

11 must be Lafayette Jefferson's lucky number: they beat Carroll with that score not once but twice on Saturday. The Bronchos were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Cougars. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 11-2 on Saturday.

Lafayette Jefferson got a great performance from Nate Hilsabeck as he struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Those ten strikeouts gave Hilsabeck a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Mason Utermark and Will Armstrong did most of the damage at the plate: Utermark scored a run while going 1-for-3, while Armstrong scored a run while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Leyton Corbin, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Lafayette Jefferson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Carroll only posted an OBP of .300.

Lafayette Jefferson now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Carroll, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, Lafayette Jefferson will head out on the road to square off against Logansport at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Carroll, they will take on Winamac at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
