Softball Game Preview: Middletown North Lions vs. Morris Catholic Crusaders

The Middletown North Lions will square off against the Morris Catholic Crusaders at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Middletown North 3, Morris Catholic 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Middletown North fell victim to Red Bank Catholic and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 7-0 to the Caseys. The Lions' loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, Morris Catholic waltzed into their match on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Everything went their way against the Wildcats as they made off with a 9-1 victory. Considering the Crusaders have won five games by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Sofia Reisinger was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two triples, one run, and one RBI. Those two triples gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Savannah Mead was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Rachel Dunn was another key player, getting on base in two of her five plate appearances with three runs.

Morris Catholic's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-2. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Middletown North, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-2.
