Softball Preview: Calera Eagles vs. Wetumpka Indians
Calera hasn't had much luck against Wetumpka recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Calera Eagles will head out to take on the Wetumpka Indians at 5:00 p.m.
Calera is headed into Thursday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Tuesday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of McAdory.
Isabelle Overton made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Megan Overton was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wetumpka). Everything went their way against Percy Julian on Tuesday as Wetumpka made off with a 24-5 victory. The win was nothing new for the Indians as they're now sitting on four straight.
The team relied heavily on Bailey Carlise, who went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Ava Farmer also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Wetumpka kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Percy Julian only managed one hit.
Wetumpka pushed their record up to 21-2 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Calera, their loss dropped their record down to 1-11.
