Vandegrift has gone a perfect 3-0 against Hutto recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Vipers are taking a road trip to face off against the Hippos at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
As a matter of fact, Vandegrift put up the most points they have all season on Thursday. They took their game with ease, bagging a 62-13 win over Manor. Given the Vipers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 56th, while the Mustangs are ranked 604th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Hutto waltzed into their contest on Friday with five straight wins... but they left with six. Everything went their way against the Tigers as they made off with a 49-29 victory. The Hippos pushed the score to 49-15 by the end of the third, a deficit the Tigers cut but never quite recovered from.
Vandegrift better keep an eye on Kaden Stefek. He was instrumental in Hutto's win, throwing for 278 yards and five TDs while picking up 12.6 yards per attempt. What's more, Stefek racked up 150.6 passer rating, the most he's had since back in August of 2024. Hutto's leading receiver Jaiden Fields was Stefek's top target yet again, picking up 118 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Hutto's run defense was locked in: Stony Point could only muster 2.9 yards per carry. The team can thank Jamaree Sorrells for the heroic effort on defense: he. The dominant display was nothing new: Hutto has now limited their opponent to fewer and fewer yards per carry in four consecutive matchups.
Hutto's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Alaedin Mustafa, Jayden Marin, and Malcolm Wheeler, who each picked up one sack apiece. Hunter Frenette got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Vandegrift's record is now 5-2. As for Hutto, their record now sits at 6-1.
Vandegrift took their win against Hutto in their previous matchup back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 38-13 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vipers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
