Baseball Recap: Morse Find Success

The matchup between Morse and Erskine Academy on Wednesday hardly resembled the 3-1 effort from their previous meeting. The Shipbuilders came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 14-9. The Shipbuilders' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Eli Sommers made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Caden Wells was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Jackson Murray was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one double.

Morse kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Erskine Academy only managed eight hits.

Morse's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Erskine Academy, they dropped their record down to 0-4 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Morse is set to square off against their familiar foe Freeport at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Erskine Academy will take on rival Leavitt at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
