Volleyball Recap: Alexis Zapach Leads a Balanced Effort to Beat Phillips Academy

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Tabor Academy, Austin Prep was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Phillips Academy Big Blue 3-2. For the Cougars, this counts as revenge for the 3-2 victory the Big Blue walked away with the last time they faced one another back in October of 2024.

Austin Prep took Phillips Academy into a fifth set where they got it done with a four-point win. The match finished with set scores of 22-25, 25-21, 19-25, 25-23, 15-11.

Austin Prep got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Alexis Zapach out in front who had 14 kills, six digs, two aces, and one block. Those 14 kills gave Zapach a new career-high. Olivia McSorley was another key player, getting 19 digs and four assists.

Austin Prep is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-6 record this season. As for Phillips Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Austin Prep will face off against Greenwich Country Day at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Phillips Academy, they will square off against St. Paul's at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. This will be the Big Blue's first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
