Softball Recap: Cherokee County Victorious

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Plainview, Cherokee County was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Hokes Bluff Eagles a 5-0 shutout. The win continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won four in a row.

Sydni Frost made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Anna Morris was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. Kaylee Lewis also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Cherokee County hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive contests.

Cherokee County's record now sits at 18-12. As for Hokes Bluff, they moved to 21-14 with that defeat, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Coming up, Cherokee County will face off against Madison Academy at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. The Mustangs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Warriors' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Hokes Bluff, they will be playing at home against Piedmont at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
