Basketball Recap: Brooks County Takes a Loss

Brooks County lost against Madison County last Saturday and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Brooks County Trojans took a 78-66 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Madison County Cowboys. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 456th in Georgia, while the Cowboys are ranked 200th in Florida).

When it comes to explaining why Brooks County lost, don't look at Anton Graham. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 17 points and 17 boards. What's more, Graham also racked up four blocks, the most he's had since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Colten Gosier, who posted nine points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Brooks County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 16 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Madison County's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jhy Smith, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 19 rebounds. Smith is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last nine games he's played. Labron Lee was another key player, putting up 21 points and seven assists.

Brooks County has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season. As for Madison County, their victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-3.

Brooks County will venture away from home to take on Charlton County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Madison County, they will square off against Hamilton County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
