Soccer Game Preview: Newnan vs. Shaw

The Newnan Cougars will venture away from home to square off against the Shaw Raiders at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Newnan will be strutting in after a win while Shaw will be coming in after a loss.

It was a proper cat-fight when Newnan duked it out with Locust Grove on Tuesday. The Cougars never let the Wildcats get on the board and left with a 6-0 victory. Maddie Roche was a massive factor in the win as she booted in three goals all by herself.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 12 goals the game before, Shaw was a bit more limited in their game on Tuesday. They lost 9-0 to Pike County. While losing is never fun, Shaw can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia soccer rankings (they are ranked 237th, while Pike County are ranked 28th).

The win made it two in a row for Newnan and bumps their season record up to 9-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up zero goals over those two contests. As for Shaw, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-7.

Everything went Newnan's way against Shaw in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Newnan made off with a 5-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
