Baseball Game Preview: Wilmot Panthers vs. Elkhorn Elks

The Wilmot Panthers will challenge the Elkhorn Elks at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Elkhorn took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Wilmot, who comes in off a win.

On Tuesday, Wilmot needed a bit of extra time to put away Burlington. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Demons 9-8. The victory was some much needed relief for the Panthers as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

Nate Dzierzanowski and Preston Jones did most of the damage at the plate: Dzierzanowski went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Jones went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That's the most hits Jones has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ryan Watson, who went 2-for-5 with two RBI and one run.

Wilmot hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Elkhorn was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-1 heartbreaker at the hands of Westosha Central. That's two games in a row now that the Elks have lost by exactly two runs.

Elkhorn now has a losing record of 5-6. As for Wilmot, their win bumped their record up to 6-8.

Wilmot might still be hurting after the 9-2 defeat they got from Elkhorn when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
