Basketball Recap: SPIRE Academy Takes a Loss

SPIRE Academy was the 67-58 winner over Western Reserve Academy when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The SPIRE Academy SPIRE fell just short of the Western Reserve Academy Pioneers by a score of 50-48 on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, the SPIRE can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 117th, while the Pioneers are ranked 24th).

Western Reserve Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brooklyn Hall, who went 5-for-12 en route to 19 points. Lilah Turnbull was another key player, putting up 12 points.

SPIRE Academy dropped their record down to 6-13 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Western Reserve Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. SPIRE Academy will host Western Reserve Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Western Reserve Academy, they will square off against Example Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Western Reserve Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.9 points per game this season.
