Recap: Newton-Conover Red Devils vs. Hickory Red Tornadoes
This season hasn't been kind to the Newton-Conover Red Devils, who are still winless after their sixth contest. The game between Newton-Conover and Hickory wasn't particularly close, with Newton-Conover falling 58-40. Newton-Conover lost against Hickory in their previous head to head last Thursday, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 57-29 score last time.
Newton-Conover's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaylen Barnes, who scored 12 points. Barnes set a new season high mark in steals with two. The team also got some help courtesy of Hadleigh Swagger, who scored 16 points.
Even though they lost, Newton-Conover were working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Newton-Conover's defeat was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-6. As for Hickory, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Newton-Conover will be home for the holidays to greet West Caldwell at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hickory won't have much time to rest: their next game is against South Caldwell at 7:00 p.m. on December 13th. South Caldwell presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Hickory in North Carolina (South Caldwell is ranked 150th, while Hickory is ranked 313th).
