Recap: Mt. Zion Bulldogs vs. Athens Academy Spartans
The Mt. Zion Bulldogs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fourth straight loss. They fell 70-60 to Athens Academy. While losing is never fun, Mt. Zion can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 399th, while Athens Academy is ranked 123rd).
Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jaki Bell, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Ronnie Terry, who scored eight points along with six assists and five steals.
Mt. Zion has not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season. As for Athens Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 13-4.
Mt. Zion will be playing in front of their home fans against Lovett at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Lovett focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Monday. As for Athens Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against East Jackson at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. East Jackson has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 1,067 points over their last 16 games.
