Volleyball Recap: Nantucket's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Nantucket had to endure a four-match losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 3-1 win over the Monomoy Sharks on Monday.

Nantucket had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 24-26, 25-18, 25-13, 25-18.

Nantucket's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bessie Aguilar, who had nine aces and seven digs. Those seven digs gave Aguilar a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariana Silva (C), who had eight aces and five digs.

They weren't the only good servers: Nantucket was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 24 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least 11 aces every time they've taken the court this season.

Despite the loss, Monomoy still got an impressive performance from Rory Shortis, who had nine kills and five blocks. Shortis has been hot, having posted five or more kills the last five times she's played.

Nantucket picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 2-6. As for Monomoy, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 2-6.

Nantucket has already played their next contest (against Rising Tide), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Monomoy, they will host Nauset Regional at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
