Basketball Recap: Athens Christian Preparatory Academy Takes a Loss

Athens Christian Preparatory Academy lost against Mercy Prep Academy back in November, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Athens Christian Preparatory Academy Storm had to suffer through a 61-26 loss at the hands of the Mercy Prep Academy Royals. While losing is never fun, the Storm can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1372nd, while the Royals are ranked 674th).

When it comes to explaining why Athens Christian Preparatory Academy lost, don't look at Nick Runte. Despite the final result, he posted 14 points and four steals. That was a full 53.8% of Athens Christian Preparatory Academy's points, marking the third time in a row he's put up more than a third of the team's points.

Jaden Mallard was his usual excellent self, putting up 16 points along with six boards and four steals for Mercy Prep Academy. Mallard is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. James Bishop was another key player, posting nine points and three steals.

Athens Christian Preparatory Academy's loss was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-11. As for Mercy Prep Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 9-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Athens Christian Preparatory Academy will square off against Longview Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Athens Christian Preparatory Academy is facing Longview Christian at the right time seeing as Longview Christian is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Mercy Prep Academy, they will take on Varsity Opponent at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
