Baseball Game Preview: Newport Wildcats vs. Pendleton County Wildcats

Newport hasn't had much luck against Pendleton County recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. Newport will head out on the road to take on Pendleton County at 5:30 p.m. Newport has given up an average of 14 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Newport fell victim to Boone County and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 16-0 to the Rebels, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.

Pendleton County came out on top against Bath County on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive ten-run fourth inning. Pendleton County put the hurt on Bath County with a sharp 11-5 win. Considering Pendleton County has won 11 games by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Pendleton County got a great performance from Colton Ortlieb as he pitched 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits.

At the plate, Kevin Miles and Carter Glahn did most of the damage at the plate: Miles went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Glahn got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs Glahn has posted over his last ten contests. Another player making a difference was Colton Glahn, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Pendleton County pushed their record up to 14-11 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.8 runs over those games. As for Newport, their loss dropped their record down to 0-20.

Newport might still be hurting after the 13-0 defeat they got from Pendleton County in their previous meeting back in May of 2025. Can Newport avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
