Evans lost against Brunswick back in October of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Evans Knights were beaten by the Brunswick Pirates 48-14. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 157th, while the Pirates are ranked 45th).

Jeremy Howard and Breyden Johnson certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Howard rushed for 94 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries, while Johnson rushed for 102 yards on only 13 carries. The dominant performance gave Johnson a new career-high in rushing yards.

Even though they lost, Evans was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 235 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Leading Brunswick to victory were Grant Moore and William Heck. Moore threw for 260 yards and four touchdowns while completing 82.4% of his passes, while Heck rushed for 149 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries. Waseem Murray was Moore's top target, picking up 98 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

This is the second loss in a row for Evans and nudges their season record down to 2-2. As for Brunswick, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Evans will have plenty of time to ponder what went wrong as they've got a bye scheduled next week. After, they'll take on South Effingham at 7:30 p.m. on September 27th. As for Brunswick, they will square off against Greenbrier at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Brunswick's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
